Children will gain an understanding of the wider world and its historical and cultural importance.

We implement this by embedding a sense of chronology of the era, through placing historical events and change on a historical timeline. We learn first-hand about the gruesome process of mummification and will write a report about Howard Carter’s famous discovery and use a range of sources to research about Tutankhamun’s tomb. We will discuss whether it was right to open the tomb or whether it should have been left as it was and what the moral reasoning could be for it. We do this by selecting, organizing and recording relevant information from a range of sources to produce well-structured narratives, descriptions and explanations. Children will be taught a range of key language relating to mummification and will form their own lines of enquiry and make informed responses based on this, deciding how to present their findings. Studying historical sources will help us learn more about the pharaohs, the Egyptian Gods and ancient religious beliefs. We will consider how the Ancient Egyptians contributed to world history.
