Term 1 - Predators

Our trip to Wingham Wildlife Park kicks off our Predators topic. Children discover together the range of animals around them, reading fun facts and attending demonstrations by trained zoo keepers. The children even get to hold a tarantula! With the woods being up the road from our school and the sea being a stone’s throw away, we enjoy exploring the habitat of living things around us. Understanding the different parts of the food chain, we learn to program animals to move across a grid – will it be caught by a predator? Using digital software effectively, we create our own food chain flow diagrams to present our knowledge. We also use Digimaps on our iPads to research and discover where animal classes live. Ever given much thought to why we are designed the way we are? We find it fascinating to learn about the purpose of our muscles and bones. From our investigations about the human skeleton, we find out how muscle make the bones move. It is so important to take care of our bodies, which is why we learn all about exercise and healthy eating in year 3. As we work scientifically, we use evidence to answer questions about the body. It would be a shame to leave out that we also work in groups to research and make our own class skeletons – ensuring that use skills to strengthen and stiffen the ‘bones’ of course!
