Swimming Lessons

School Swimming

It is a National Curriculum requirement that all children should leave primary school being able to swim 25 metres. In addition, we believe that as our children live close to the seaside, they should all be strong swimmers and have a good knowledge of water safety.

This is why we take pupils swimming for two terms each academic year in Years 5 and 6. For the academic year 2022-23, 85% of Year 6 children (85 of 100 children) were able to:

  • swim 25m or more with confidence
  • use a range of swim strokes effectively.
  • 100 % of pupils were taught and performed safe self-rescue in the water

The usual pattern for swimming is as follows:

  • Terms 1 and 2: Year 6 swimming
  • Terms 3 and 4: Year 5 swimming

At the moment, all our pupils swim on a Wednesday afternoon. Children should bring with them:

  • Swimming trunks or shorts (not too long) or one piece costume (no bikinis)
  • Towel
  • £3.00 per week (voluntary contribution)

Anyone with a verruca will need to wear a verruca sock. Children are not permitted to wear jewellery. Swimming staff do allow children to wear goggles, should they need them.
