Peasants, Princes and Pestilence

Lock your doors and pull up the drawbridge: the dreaded great Pestilence is here.

In this topic, children will meet a strange character called Pestilence and use a range of sources to research the symptoms of the Black Death. Geography skills will help us to understand why it came to Britain and why it spread so quickly. Through investigation, we will discover the effects of bacteria on the human body. We will research the “cures” for the plague. Cross-curricular writing will enable our children to empathise with children in other historical periods through diary writing, whilst their knowledge will be further embedded through drama performances to convey their understanding to an audience.
