Gods and Mortals
Let’s discover a fantastical world of mythical creatures and heroes!
The children will become real historians as we explore the topic Gods and Mortals, in Ancient Greece. We’ll explore the land of Greece, where the sun scorches and the smell of Greek delicacies float through the street. The children will have a chance to get their hands messy, as they make popular Greek food such as olive tapenade and fresh bread all in preparation for their banquet. Children will compare how the Olympics have changed throughout time, and have their own Olympic Games!
With a lightning bolt of power, the children will receive a letter from Zeus inviting them to become a newly anointed God. The children will have to conduct their own historical enquiry, and respond in the way they see fit. As we immerse ourselves into this topic, children will compare the lives between rich and poor people of Ancient Greece. They will use iPads to research and historical resources to develop their understanding. Lives of Ancient Greek soldiers will also be put under a microscope and analysed. The children will discover the reasons for Soldiers armour and explore the materials used. Having this knowledge, the children must then design armour, a shield and sword, fit for battle!
