Year 4 Multiplication Check

This year, your Year 4 children will undertake the Multiplication Tables Check. This is a government initiative and is compulsory for all schools. The purpose of the MTC is to determine whether pupils can recall their times tables fluently, which is essential for future success in mathematics. 

Your children will do this check in small groups using iPads. They will be required to complete 25 questions, with a time limit of 6 seconds per question. We will prepare the children by completing a practice check, before the actual one, which will take place in June.

You can help support your child by:

• Encouraging them to use Times Tables Rock Stars – particularly the Soundcheck section as this mirrors the way they will be tested
• Regularly chanting multiplication tables – up to 12 x 12
• Using the multiplication chart provided

The school will be notified of the results of this check towards the end of the year.
