Year 4

We would like to welcome all parents, carers and children to terms 3 and 4 in Year 4. Our topics in the coming two terms are Burps, Bottoms and Bile (term 3) and Super Sonic Sound (Term 4). We will continue to hear from Angus, a cattle farmer, through fortnightly Farmer Time sessions, where we will follow the progress of his cows and learn more about the workings of his cattle farm.

This term, we continue our focus on learning the times tables with a weekly whole school times tables challenge. Booklets to help children prepare for these were sent home before Christmas. Please continue to support your child in practising the times tables – it really does make a difference! Thank you as well, to all those parents who continue to support reading at home and who add comments in reading records.

Please note that there are some timetable changes this term. PE will be on Fridays and PPA will be on a Wednesday afternoon, so the children will need to be in their PE kits on Wednesdays and Fridays.

At home, please can you continue to support your child’s reading by listening to them read, asking them questions about their reading and supporting them to understand the meaning of less familiar vocabulary. Spellings are also given out on Mondays and the spelling test takes place on Fridays so please try and spend a bit of time helping your child to practise their spellings throughout the week. Maths homework revolves around learning the multiplication tables thoroughly. The children will also be taking part in the Times Tables Challenges each week so please encourage them to practise the tables from their booklet as well as playing games and completing sound checks on Times Tables Rockstars. Year 4 children are required to sit the online government times tables check in June so it is really important that all times tables are kept fresh! We are aiming for the children to recall any given times table within 6 seconds. With this in mind, we will still do speed tests on Fridays in class. Our focus will be the 4, 8 and 12 times tables.

Any questions or queries, please do ask the class teacher – we are at the classroom door at the end of every day and are happy to talk to you.
