Walk with Amal Arts Project

During term 1, students from a range of after school Arts clubs including the Accomplished Artists, Years 3 and 4 Devised Drama Club and the Years 5 and 6 Dance Club, collaborated to take part in an international project called ‘Walk with Amal,’ a travelling festival of art and hope in support of refugees.

This involved taking part in a variety of linked activities and workshops focusing on Amal’s journey as a child refugee and creating acts of welcome.

The Accomplished Artists created beautiful ‘home’ banners using print making techniques, and the Devised Drama and Dance Clubs explored the themes of home and welcome and created a performance poetry piece using ‘Every Step of the Way’ by Michael Morpurgo.

These acts of welcome were then celebrated with one another in an after school showcase, which was a wonderful opportunity to share our artworks and reflect upon our achievements together.

Our creations and were also presented during a school trip to meet the 3.5 metre tall puppet of Little Amal at the University of Kent, alongside other schools and local community.
