Year 5 – Terms 3 and 4
Welcome back and happy New Year! We hope everyone had an enjoyable break and are excited to continue our learning journey in year 5.

Maths
In the next two terms of year 5 we focus on revising the 9 and 12 times tables. It is important for children to carry on increasing the speed and accuracy that they are able to answer multiplication questions.
We will start the term looking at area and perimeter and we will continue to develop the children’s understanding of factions, decimals and percentages towards the later part of the term.

Term 3
Geography – Exploring Egypt
This term we will explore modern day Egypt. We will revisit the continents and oceans of the world ensuring children can name and place them on a variety of maps. During this geography based topic we will compare physical and human features as well as develop geographical skills.
Term 4
Science – Forces
The children will investigate a range of forces including contact and non-contact. Through practical enquires and discussions we will explore different types of forces.
PE
PE kits should be worn to school every Wednesday and Friday.
Children will be swimming on Friday mornings. Please see letter sent out at the end of term 2 for more information.
Homework
Spellings will be given out on Monday and tested on Friday each week.
Children should continue to build the speed and accuracy they are able to answer times table questions. Children will be tested every week on their appropriate times table level.
Children will bring home a reading book and reading record, please regularly record and discuss their chosen book.
